[Maul making murderous overtures on a public network will tend to draw a lot of attention. It wasn't the first time the Zabrak made a scene, and he had his doubts it would be the first.]
During that first combat, I assume he was still under the instruction of that master of his he will speak about?
[Also, murdering someone's master and then attempting to end them was definitely grounds for a good mutilating and sudden drop. It actually kind of amused him because Maul was so angry about the whole affair.]
And how do you plan on avoiding his vendetta? One day you will run across him again personally.
I believe so, though I think he has broken off ties with Darth Sidious.
[ maul making use of the criminal underground, mandalore. he's pretty sure none of those were sanctioned. and when maul disappeared once more to reappear again . . . it was suspicious. ]
I'm not the one running nor am I avoiding it. I only refuse to fuel it with anger and hate. I will not be drawn in. And he knows that it is risky to meet me on the battlefield.
Yes, he doesn't seem to be in much interest in that one these days. There are children he is mindful of these days, which I'm certain you'll get a kick out of.
[Maul wasn't particularly secretive when it came to talking about adventures and policies and his own reputation, which was entertaining and interesting. He also expected that Maul would lose his fool head and run into combat with this one screaming like a banshee and end up dead.
Reaper was hoping to avoid that inevitability.]
The fact that he knows it will be risky means that he will likely bring allies who have proven themselves in combat. I will not decline his request for aide, but you seem to be far more useful as carrot than stick.
I'm not his brother, and I don't lose my limbs easily. The only brilliant thing about Savage is his name. While he might not let anyone kill you but him, he's not so stupid to not consider strength in numbers. People holding your limbs while he peels your skin off with his teeth comes to mind as something he might resort to.
[Maul sure did like biting after all. Right now, he'd prefer to keep Maul from flying off the handle and rushing into a lightsaber if he could help it. But he'd do things his way, not all those whiny goodie-goodies.]
I don't know yet, given I know very little about you. Maul speaks highly of your skills and your incorruptible nature. I imagine we can come to some agreement that keeps you and Maul out of each other's line of sight if you wish for that.
[ obi-wan is skeptical. a great deal of people do like maul, but they didn't seem all that convinced in his purpose. and while maul can consider strength in numbers, he's never been good at following through. mandalore, after all, is a mess.
also that's . . . interestingly descriptive. it definitely rings warning bells. ]
You do realize I'm not the one you need to convince to such an agreement.
[It was good to be skeptical. Reaper would be if the shoe had been on the other foot, but he would prefer to keep Maul in the land of the living rather than risk the Zabrak forgetting him and everyone else if a suicide mission goes off.]
You realize that Maul doesn't know I'm speaking to you, and I have no plans at present to tell him. He's not going to listen to reason for awhile yet after all.
So I approach the seemingly more detached of the pair in this rising conflict.

[ useful as a carrot, huh? obi-wan's not sure how he feels about that. ]
And what sort of use do you have for me?

I've already forged an agreement with Maul. I think he will honour it unless something else interferes. He's too committed to give up the opportunity.
